ramblings on a sleepy sunday
why is it that whenever the end of the holidays draw near, i'll look back and think to myself," i haven't had enough fun yet. This spring break is simply too short to do all that i wanted to do!" yes, holidays are something that we can never have enough of. Sugar, yes that's something we can have too much (unless u've a sweettooth), and salt, simply because of the idea of kidney failure is not very enticing. Yes, i've come to the conclusion that money, time and holidays are the 3 things that we can't have enough of. Well, of cos some of my male friends will argue that there's another thing that they can't get enough of, the 's' thing. (hey, don't think dirty, i'm talking about soccer here, hah)
Of course, the Americans call it soccer, while the rest of the world calls it football. It's pretty ironical, considering that their version of football involves almost no kicking of the ball at all. Well i can't dwell on this too much, because it seems that they find this topic very offensive. Esp about playing the game in the original version. A case in point:
(JY and Roommate watching soccer in the room, on Asian ESPN)
Roomie: man, i'm sick of soccer. Asian ESPN shows nothing but soccer. Why can't they show something else? (i.e. NFL)
JY: hey, you shld convert, because the rest of the world think soccer (ahem, football) is a darn great sport.
Roomie: There's too little action man. 22 guys chasing a ball ain't that great you know.
JY: well 90 mins of action is definitely better than 5 mins of commercials for every 10 seconds of play.
Roomie:..... $%&^&*$#%^$%#^%#...
Case in point 2:
JY: hey let's play tai-dee (or da-lao-er, or big two).
Kev: oh, the game that has the Spades of 2 as the biggest card? awesome! let's play.
Roomie: No guys, the ORIGINAL game is played with the Diamond 2 as the biggest card, not the Spades 2. It's invented by the Filipinos.
JY: but we're so used to the singaporean version. come on Kev, let's play.
Roomie: hey hey! you should always play a game in its original version, not some warped alternative.
JY (irritated at this point): what about American Football then? it's such a rip-off from rugby!!
Roomie: hey hey, American Football is the ORIGINAL game that throws the ball forward!
JY: oh well... if you wanna argue it this way...
Roomie: .... @#^$#%$#@%%^&%
Sleepy. Sunday afternoons aren't meant for studying man. It feels weird to be back in the library after 9 days of absence. As they all say, absence makes the heart grow fonder. I guess that's true. My heart is so fond right now i wanna just fall asleep in the library's embrace. Ahh the comfortable wooden tables. But i cant. Irritating Psychology exam is coming up soon. I find it highly amusing to be tested on topics such as how memory works, how your conscious works. It's pretty ironical really. It's a self-enforcing bind, come to think of it. If you do badly in a test that tests your memory about how memory works, it means you don't really understand how memory works in the first place, so you can then come to two conclusions: either the textbook sucks, or your memory failed. Either way, i'm not at fault if i flunk this exam! hah... comforting thoughts indeed. =)
ok... now that i've met my quota for crapping for the whole day (for some, this amount is the quota for their whole WEEK, but hey... don't judge me now), i shall return to more wonderful readings about memory and consciousness. Hope i remember how to remember come wednesday.
